“ARTISTE EN CAVALE 88-09”
DATED 2009

NASTY, an essential figure in French street art
Passionate about the hip hop movement and fascinated by New York street artists, Nasty focuses his work on simple letters and tangy colors, gaining attention by painting colorful frescoes on Paris trains. He works above all on the typography of his name, playing on associations of colors, shapes and effects. He uses the Italian brand of Clash aerosol can and likes variations of the color pink.
At the beginning of the 90s, he joined the AEC collective (Artiste en Cavale). Together, they develop a strategy and decide to prioritize their actions where their work will be most visible.
It is his works on metro plates that mark Nasty’s transition from the street to gallery work where he features these famous RATP enamel plates, but also metro maps and ceramic bricks. These are “pieces” of Paris which are then exhibited, like witnesses of an era.
